Manoir du Petit Béru

serenarts-design-manoir-du-petit-beru

This idyllic manor house in France has recently been bought by a client of SerenArts and is now a bed and breakfast for those wanting to experience a little bit of rural France in style.

We were asked to design a new promotional leaflet based on the original flyer that was in French.  This called for some linguistic expertise that we did not process, so we called on the services of one G F Pugh (my Dad!).  For those of you of a certain age, this name may seem familiar, as it was he who was jointly responsible for creating the Longmans Audio Visual French series of school texts books that every child had to recite regardless of what educational establishment you attended.  With his translation and our graphic design ability, we have created this very informative leaflet…

Top Steer Challenge

Here at SerenArts we are very pleased to be involved with a long standing client, TopSteer Challenge, who we have been doing graphic design work for over the past 7 years.

In 2014 Bill Chapman from Bath was inspired to create a unique company called TopSteer Challenge which raises money for charities after meeting British television and radio presenter Chris Evans at a BBC Children in Need event. Bill and his team of volunteers  customise little sit in electric cars, from classic roadsters to sports cars licensed from Ferrari , McLaren , BMW, Lamborghini and many more famous makes.

‘Lock Up’ – Photographic Artwork

Sorry it’s been so long since we last posted… no excuses!

We thought we better start off with the latest canvas to be added to SerenArts Gallery

‘Lock Up’

This striking photographic artwork by Serena has been giclee printed on a canvas measuring 30″ x 40″ and depicts an abstract view of the lock up on the Town Bridge in Bradford.  Serena has been concentrating on this style of graphic work over the last few months and it is proving extremely popular in the gallery.

If you would like more information about her work please contact us at any time, or why not pop down to the Tithebarn Workshops for a first hand view?

Do do do do dodeedo doo…….

unnamed

I am not sure that title will mean anything but to those that drink whiskey or watch the adverts on television, but I am betting those that do know what it means read that and actually sang it to themselves!

I was recently asked to paint a window panel with a grouse on for a commission and this is the result. I do enjoy the glass painting side of my art as the colours are so vibrant and packed full of punch and depth. I tried not to use any white in this picture as it dulls the translucent nature of the glass paint, and you cannot see through the ‘shade’ colours. A crying shame if it is a window, in my opinion! The richness and tone therefore may not be everyone’s cup of tea if you prefer subtlety but I think he is a fine, shiny, colourful and dandy fellow,  worthy of a snifter on the rocks….

Hope you enjoy 🙂 Serena

The Guardian

Hot off the press is a digital painting from a photograph I have been working on. A few moons back we had a mad idea to take a ten mile walk along the canal to Bath. The jury is still out on who was the daftest- my hub for suggesting it, or myself for agreeing. I have never been so pleased to sit on public transport for the journey home though, I can tell you. About four miles in to the epic trek I found this little fellow diligently watching over his owner’s floating abode, and could not resist snapping a few frames of him gracefully enjoying his duties. Pets are big business on the canals- we often see cats and dogs roaming the running boards and gang planks nonchalantly, happily minding their own business. The other photograph of a pet I managed to take was of a gargantuan black cat curled up in a chair with one green eye open. However, upon viewing the images at home later I realised it was reclining on an equally black chair and had actually shut its eye as I took the photo. I could have taken a picture of a lump of coal, inside a coal cellar, inside a coal mine, inside a black hole and the image would not have looked any different. Hardly an exciting and detailed shot of animal life upon the canals, eh? Luckily this picture more than makes a statement I feel. I hope you enjoy …..

Pretty peony….

Peonyresized

My husband and I have been running an unspoken marital competition to see who can grow the best peony. Sad but true. A quick peruse round the garden centre lead to my husband picking a peony tree, as that sounded more macho and a veritable powerhouse of nature, whilst I plumped for a good old faithful bush style one. I would like to say I chose mine for it’s stamina, and horticultural standing in the green fingered world, but I know not of these things and just went with the girliest, rainbow glitter and sprinkles sounding flower possible. My Pink Sherbet peony now stands abundant with flowers so heavy the plant is bowed and groaning under the weight. What of the mighty tree peony? Not even a bud has formed to justify it’s existence. So here pictured is an altered art image of my smug peony in all its glory!

I would like to add though that possibly I may have tipped the odds in my favour on winning as I planted my hubby’s tree next to a rather voracious lavender bush. I do feel a twinge of guilt every time I hear him say ”Pfft! Mine is in the shade!” but all is fair in peony wars I say…..

Hope you enjoy the image 🙂

Serena posting….

please don’t all step back in confusion. Yes it HAS been a long time since I lasted posted on my own website and I do feel a little chagrined at my poor hubby having to hold the reins- but he does it so well. I am also sure he enjoys it really too. The weary cries to me of ” but I haven’t got anything to write about- it is your turn!’ are just for show, surely?

In truth I finally have something worthwhile to contribute (well, in my mind’s eye anyway.) Painting has been taking more of a back seat and I am gradually learning more on the image manipulation front, in regard to formulating a book of my photographic work, tied in with my art, and held loosely together with my rambling style of wordsmithery. Is that a real word? It is now it’s in black and…
