Step into the watery wonderland of the Bradford on Avon Walking Festival, returning on 6–7 September 2025 with a captivating two‑day programme for walkers of all abilities  .

This year’s festival embraces a “watery” theme, offering 13 guided walks that thread through the winding river Avon, historic canals, and lush water meadows. Whether you’re craving a gentle riverside amble or a demanding full‑day trek, there’s something for everyone  .

Saturday highlights include:

  • A demanding all‑day 11.5‑mile walk through Lacock’s water meadows (09:00 start; £6; bring a picnic).
  • A moderate 5‑mile journey exploring Bath‑stone quarrying, also beginning at 10:00 (£6).
  • Evening walks such as the atmospheric “Bats on the River and Canal” torchlit stroll (19:30; easy; £5), and a sunset ascent of Solsbury Hill (17:00; moderate; £8)  .

Sunday brings more discovery:

  • A demanding 13‑mile riverside walk to Bath (09:00; £6).
  • A moderate 8‑mile route across tributaries and historic mills (10:00; £5).
  • Eco‑focused shorter walks such as the Claverton Pumping Station tour (£8 adults/£2 U16) and an ecology explorer’s ramble along the Avon and Frome (10:15; £5)  .

Walk tickets go on sale from 15 July 2025  . Most walks begin at the Explore BoA tourist information centre by the Town Bridge (BA15 1DE)  . Costs are modest (£4–£8), and group sizes are limited—so booking early is wise.

Sturdy boots, rainproof gear, and at least 2 litres of water are essential for all walks  . Whether you’re intrigued by industrial heritage, local batlife, or stunning landscapes, this festival is a celebration of nature, community and discovery.

Bradford on Avon Walking Festival

Well, despite local news to the contrary, today definitely marks the start of the Bradford on Avon ‘Walking’ Festival, and not any other type of festival… despite what local vandals would have you believe!

The walks proved very popular last time and take in some of the stunning scenery in and around the Tithebarn Workshops and Barton Farm Country Park as well as the surrounding area.

Bookings can then be made in person at the Festival registration tent in Westbury Gardens, outside ExploreBoA (Tourist Information) from 09.00 on Friday 2nd September.

On my morning walk today I came across the Bradford on Avon Walking Festival getting their stall set up in Westbury Gardens…

What a lovely weekend to have a wander around Bradford and the surrounding area. I went to their website and discovered that all their organised walks appear to be fully booked… which is encouraging. You can still spend a lovely day walking around the area though, including the beautiful Tithe Barn and Barton Farm Country Park area. You can also pop in to the Workshops to have a look at what we have to offer down here.
