Bird Spotting

Well… following my unsuccessful run of photos of birds here’s another one…

Nuthatch

New Visitor

I believe this to be a Nuthatch, but I’m willing to be corrected if anyone out there knows better.  The little fella was tucking in this morning, making the most of the food before the squirrel arrives I guess!  Although there may be some news on that front… we have a resident fox that comes down of an evening and this morning Terry noticed some grey fur in the usual deposit that he leaves in the garden… maybe, just maybe, he had a little squirrel snack last night!  Secretly, I hope not otherwise how would I spend my days?!

Art & Football

Well here we have two of the loves of my life being combined into one.  This amazing sculpture has been erected outside the Pompidou Art Centre in Paris and celebrates the infamous headbutt of former France forward Zinedine Zidane on Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup final… only the French!!

Have it!

Although it was a disgraceful action on the Frenchmans part, it does make a rather impressive bronze don’t you think?!

We're Back…

Apologies for the lack of posts over the last few weeks.  This is partly because we have been away in Italy and partly due to a distinct amount of apathy in the run up to the holiday!  Anyway, we’re now back and will try and get on with posting in the run up to Christmas at the Tithebarn Workshops.

In the meantime, here are a couple of quick pictures taken on my iPhone with the panoramic feature…

Fame at Last!

Just for the sake of looking and dreaming we regularly get details of local houses sent through via email.  We received one this morning from the beautiful Barton Orchard in Bradford on Avon and were very taken by their choice of decor.  On the wall in the bedroom, proudly displayed for prospective buyers to see was a framed photo by Serena!  A lovely shot taken on Dartmoor and converted to black and white.  All they need now is one of our lamps on one of our tables next to the bed!

Testing testing…

Right then… Serena and I are off on holiday to Italy on Friday and I just wanted to see if I could post on my blog using my iPhone. So little has been happening at the gallery recently that we haven’t posted. However we are hoping that in Venice things will be slightly different!
It’s the end of the summer season today and the kids are all going back to school. Lovely and peaceful on the one hand but less money in the till! Been a very quiet one with the awful weather and the gloomy financial forecasts. Still christmas is just round the corner!
Just finished the luggage labels for our trip, which is an ongoing competition with my parents! I think we may just win this year! We’ll post again soon…

Underwater Wheelchair

Underwater Wheelchair

This amazing photo was taken from the BBC News website and shows artist Sue Austin preparing to show off a prototype self-propelled underwater wheelchair to the public.  I think it’s absolutely incredible and I take my hat off to the dive experts and academics who dreamt up this design.  One can only hope it maybe becomes available and affordable to those less able bodied individuals who want to experience the wonders of your seas.  However, Sue will have to make do with a Weymouth swimming pool to start with!

Good luck and we hope the rust doesn’t get too bad!

Back in Bradford

There was a huge welcome back to Bradford on Avon for Ed McKeever, the successful Olympic 2012 gold medalist this week.  The town was closed off and the crowds gathered to salute the local hero.

Another view of this would be that I now can’t have my morning paddle up and down the river without being overtaken by super fit young enthusiasts keen to make the Olympic squad in Rio!  Anyway, well done all the same Ed!

Shag?…

or Cormorant if you prefer… a pair of them in fact.  I caught these chaps doing a spot of fishing just by the Riverside Inn and having considerably more success than the fellas that cart tonnes of gear up the tow path during the season!

I had seen them before up nearer the weir, but never this close to town.  I thought they were a salt water / sea bird, maybe someone can tell me what they are doing on the River Avon?…

Are there any fish down there?…

GOLD!

HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Ed McKeever of Bradford on Avon… winner of the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in the 200m kayak sprint.  The Town is very proud of you and thank you for the rather natty gold post box in the Shambles… just a shame we don’t have a Post Office to go with it!  (Oooh… political comment!).  Anyway, well done Ed.

Our postman told us that he is actually from Farleigh Wick, just down the road, but their post box only takes approximately 4 letters a week, so they did the Bradford one as he used to paddle here!

I guess this will mean I’ll have loads of new faces joining me on the river in the mornings!…
