Swans again!

I know… I’ve been banging on about those swans now for a few posts, but I was going through some old photos yesterday and came across this one from the 2007 floods…

The cygnets are bit bigger but not much has changed… apart from the fact they’re swimming in our garden at the Tithebarn Workshops!

Floating Hotel is back

It’s good to see the Wessex Rose back on the Kennet and Avon Canal in Bradford again. This lovely vessel was moored up next to the Tithe Barn near SerenArts Gallery this morning and guests could enjoy an al fresco breakfast again due to summer finally arriving! It was nice and busy on the canal this morning with visitors returning in numbers and enjoying this perfect change in weather.

I’m afraid on my walk this morning I couldn’t help taking another quick picture of the swan family I’m afraid! They’re just too cute. The Dad was leading them out into the rather swollen river for a bit of white water practice!

SerenArts Swan & Duck Food

If you pop down to Barton Farm this weekend why not come into SerenArts Gallery and get some duck / swan food at just £1 a bag. The new swan family will love you!

What’s on at Barton Farm?

We know the weather is making this feel more like a Bank Holiday weekend, but it is worth braving the elements and heading down to Barton Farm and the Tithebarn Workshops today…

Mummy and Daddy Swan have decided to relocate to Barton Bridge where they have attracted one or two photographers! Looks like the resident kingfisher might get the hump with all the lenses pointed at the new cygnets. If you are launching a kayak or paddle board from here, please be mindful and keep your distance.

It is also very good to see the first exhibition returning to the West Barn in well over a year…

This was them just setting up this morning when I went for my walk. There will be paintings, potter, laser cut design, textiles and wirework on show from artists: Gina Belford, Kate Westcott, Andrew Eddleston, Karen George, Natty Deco and Gaynor Leverett-Jaques. Good luck to you all.

We look forward to seeing you all soon.

Dementia Friendly Bradford on Avon

It was great to see that word of the new Dementia Friendly BOA booklet was spreading…

We posted recently that SerenArts were delighted to have been commissioned to design and produce this informative booklet for this excellent local group. We picked up the story in the Wiltshire Times and have been seeing it popping up across various websites and social media.

The work this organisation does is vital to the local families and individuals who are affected by this terrible condition so for more information about them why not visit their website.

If you would like more information about our design and printing services, or to discuss a printing project, please feel free to contact us at any time.

Hens Orchard in Blossom

Despite the rather inclement weather this weekend we couldn’t help noticing how lovely the Hens Orchard is looking now. The well established fruit trees are in beautiful bloom and the meadow is perfectly kept to compliment this area of Barton Farm.

SerenArts Gallery were recently commissioned to update the map of the orchard’s trees, planting layout and donors…

This poster has been split in two sections and will be going in the display case next to the bend in the path. We even put in the stunning wrought iron bench that was put in situ in memory of Simon Relph. Simon was an active member of the Bradford on Avon Preservation Trust and instrumental in the project to bring the Orchard back to its former glory.

The Kingfisher Trail 2021

We mentioned a few weeks ago about some of the upcoming events and goings on in Bradford. The Kingfisher Trail 2021 is a very exciting celebration of art organised in support of Cotswolds National Landscape. This years event is to include Bradford on Avon for the first time.

The Kingfisher Trail is a fantastic arts trail of 21 wonderful kingfisher sculptures which have been decorated by some of our most talented local artists for public display in and around the Cotswolds National Landscape in 2021. Residents and visitors are invited to follow the trail in the summer of 2021, get out into nature and enjoy the outstanding natural beauty of the Cotswolds region. The Kingfisher Trail is designed to bring businesses, arts and local communities together and at the end of the project all of these wonderful sculptures will be auctioned to art lovers and businesses to raise funds for the vital conservation work (for projects that support children and young people in the Cotswolds National Landscape.) of the Cotswolds National Landscape.

Similar to the Minerva’s Owls Sculpture Trail that the local businesses and the Town Council supported in 2018, the Kingfisher Trail will see the town host one of 21 large sculptures of a kingfisher, each decorated by a professional artist.

The 21st sculpture, the ‘Flying Kingfisher’, will move to a new location every fortnight. With Bradford on Avon at the southern end of the Cotswolds, the Trail will now include our portion of the Avon valley too!

Our kingfisher will make two visits to the town, the first in June, and then returning in August.  The trail will be available online and via a smartphone App and we will keep you updated of the locations nearer the time. To celebrate the kingfisher’s arrival, we will also be launching a community art project – keep an eye out on our website and social media @BoATownCouncil for more information on how to get involved!

Barton Farm Country Park Booklet

With the increase in the number of visitors to Bradford on Avon and the Barton Farm Country Park, we thought we would put together a very simple little booklet giving information about this beautiful area. This A6 landscape booklet will be available from this Thursday at SerenArts Gallery

There will be a brief history of the Barton Farm area, a bit on the wildlife in the Country Park, a few of the many walks available and just some general information.

We hope to see you down at the Tithebarn Workshops soon.

Spot Your House!

Let’s have a quick game of spot your house!…

aerial view of barton farm

I came across this aerial photo of the Barton Farm and surrounding area when I was going through some old files the other day. It was used in a project we worked on for the Preservation Trust, for their book on the history of Barton Farm. Very interesting to see places you know from above and it does show what a beautiful area we have the pleasure to work in
